Our Work.
Client Challenge:
Our client was building a new distribution centre and wanted to get the right safety solutions installed before the site became operational. Guided by their “Safe for Life” philosophy, they partnered with us to design and deliver safety solutions as part of their new build.
The key challenges were:
- Drivers needed a safe place to stand while trucks were being loaded and unloaded – away from moving vehicles.
- Forklifts and trucks operating near warehouse columns meant there was a high risk of impact damage.
- The build was moving fast, so there wasn’t room for delays or incorrect specification
Solutions Recommended
Our client reached out to us for a consultation to discuss the project scope and required outcomes. One of our consultants then met on site with the project manager for a walkthrough, so we could get a clear understanding of how the space needed to operate. From there, we helped scope out what safety controls were needed, where they’d go, and measured up on site in preparation for design.
Here’s what we recommended:
- Driver Safe Zones: We set up clearly defined areas where drivers could wait safely while trucks were being loaded. These were built using strong barriers to physically separate people from forklifts and trucks, with signs so it was obvious what the space was for.
- Column Guards: We fitted impact-resistant HDPE column guards around warehouse columns to protect them from accidental hits by forklifts or vehicles. This was to eliminate damage and costly repairs that would typically occur when a column is hit by a vehicle.
During the install, things were moving quickly on-site. We kept in close contact with our client and the project manager on site, making sure everything went as planned and was installed on time.
The Outcome
Our client now has a site where safety is built in, not bolted on later. Drivers have a clear, protected space to stand, and the building’s key structural points are shielded from vehicle impact, giving the team peace of mind that their people and assets are protected.
It’s a practical setup that supports day-to-day operations and reflects our client’s commitment to keeping people safe at work.
