Why Goodman Fielder Chose LED Projectors Over Static Floor Markings

Client: Goodman Fielder

Solutions used: Signum LED Gobo Projector

In busy warehouse environments, some hazards only exist at certain times, making dynamic visual warnings far more effective than static floor markings.

We recently caught up with Goodman Fielder to discuss how they’re using LED projectors to create on-demand exclusion zones around loading docks and material handling equipment.

What safety or operational challenges were you dealing with prior to installing the LED projectors?

A. High traffic intersections in front of load-out docks with minimal indication of ‘loading in process’.

What made you confident that LED projectors were the right solution for your site?

A. Dynamic usage control – ability to trigger on/off at key times.

Since installing the projectors, what’s changed?

A. More awareness in high traffic areas. Pedestrians can clearly see truck loading is in process.

What would you tell someone who’s still relying on painted markings and not convinced to shift to projectors?

A. Painting markings are good for a static permanent solution and for outside use. Projectors are good for off/on functionality in a warehouse environment.

Any final feedback/comments you want to share?

Projectors are excellent for their ability to be worked in with electrical systems, such as sensors. This allows control when you deem necessary. They make great tools for time scheduled exclusion zones, heavy traffic zones and incoming traffic warnings.

Projectors in Coolroom environment can be slower to light up fully due to condensation. Have not installed in ambient to compare.

We are very happy with our projectors, we currently have 5 installed total – three for dockway zones and two for time scheduled MHE exclusion zones.

Cool idea – a projector with ability to display multiple GOBO images loaded like a revolver magazine with ‘change on signal’ function would be great for displaying multiple messages/images for dynamic zones.

Summary

By integrating the projectors with their existing electrical systems, Goodman Fielder now have the flexibility to activate highly visible pedestrian warnings only when loading is in progress.

This smart addition to their site safety improved awareness without adding unnecessary visual clutter throughout the warehouse.

About the Signum LED Gobo Projector

Painted floor markings and decals don’t last long in high-traffic areas. Constant traffic wears them down, and replacing them costs time and labour.

The Signum LED Projector takes a different approach. Mounted overhead (up to 10 metres high), it projects safety signage straight onto the floor or another surface using a gobo, a durable image disc that works like a slide. Because the sign is made of light, there’s nothing to wear away, and you can swap gobos as site layouts change.

Made in Italy, it’s IP65 rated, works from -30°C to +50°C, and has a 50,000-hour LED life.
