Worksafe Guide to Managing Work Site Traffic

To prevent potential risks and hazards in the workplace, WorkSafe have released a great resource for Site Traffic Management.

Work site traffic has the potential to cause major harm to workers and visitors at work sites. It is the responsibility of every business to ensure safety for their people, and moving vehicles, if unchecked, can be the cause of bodily injury and worse without proper attention. If a space is shared by multiple businesses, the responsibility is on all parties to have a plan in place and create harm deterrents. Those in charge should consult with everyone responsible for health and safety before taking action and must also consult with workers to get a complete understanding of safety requirements.

The Site Traffic Management Plan contains a variety of solutions for work sites of different configuration, grouped into five main areas:.

  • General risk management principles
  • Safe work site (design & activity)
  • Safe vehicles
  • Safe people
  • Work site induction and traffic management plans

These guidelines can help PCBUs to meet their duties under the Health and
Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA).

Worksafe Guide to Safe Reversing & Spotting Practices

WorkSafe have recently put together a guide to encourage safe reversing and spotting practices. This guide offers practical advice on how you can manage the risks of reversing vehicles and mobile plants.

Reversing should always be eliminated where possible through good site design. Where reversing cannot be avoided, solutions such as mirrors, pedestrian walk-way barriers, reversing cameras, sensors, corner protection and high-visibility bollards can be used to ensure care is taken by drivers, pedestrians and visitors to site.
