Overview
A nationwide grocery retailer, Foodstuffs, faced safety concerns at their Hornby distribution centre due to an inadequately protected walkway. The area had only a standard height barrier, offering limited protection between stacked pallets and the pedestrian walkway. They contacted Vanguard for a comprehensive safety solution.
Challenge
To enhance the safety of pedestrian walkways in a busy warehouse environment, where forklifts and pallet stacking activities posed significant risks.
Solution
- Tru-Gard Cage Barrier: Implemented to provide fully rated walkway protection against forklifts and their loads, as well as high-level protection from stacked pallets.
- Tru-Gard Pause Gates: Installed at the end of the walkway to ensure pedestrians pause and check for safety before crossing into traffic zones.
- Design, supply, and installation: Vanguard managed the entire process, ensuring the barriers were clearly visible with a safety yellow finish.
Result
The installation of Tru-Gard barriers not only enhanced safety but also allowed for better operational space utilisation through double-stacking pallets. The visible barriers improved forklift awareness, contributing to a safer work environment.
