Challenge
Our client (a facilities maintenance provider) had a traffic safety challenge; vehicles were speeding through their Port and exceeding safe speed limits, creating significant risk for pedestrian vs vehicle incidents.
They came to Vanguard looking for a solution that would effectively reduce vehicle speeds within the port. They needed confidence that the solution would:
- Reduce traffic speeds to 15kph
- Work for multiple vehicle types including both cars and trucks
- Be easy to install, minimizing operational disruption
- Provide a long-term traffic control method
Solution
After understanding the challenge and required outcomes, Vanguard’s consultant recommended 50mm high Speed Cushions. This solution was chosen due to its gradual profile – suitable for slowing both cars and trucks, without being too abrupt to drive over like other smaller speed humps.
This was important as the trucks driving through site were carrying sensitive goods that couldn’t be dislodged during transport.
Outcome
Vanguard supplied and installed the speed cushion with minimal disruption to site operations.
Since installation, vehicle speeds have successfully been reduced, achieving the aim of minimising potential pedestrian vs vehicle accidents on our clients’ site.
