This video takes a look at a recently completed project with Fulton Hogan in Lower Hutt City. The purpose of this project was to provide a kerb build-out at a high risk intersection to make sure that vehicles were slowing down before they entered the street. This is also important because there is two pedestrian crossings at this location.
The reason Rubber Kerb Blocks were used on this project was to provide a faster installation method and reduce the amount of temporary traffic management and disruption to the road.
Fulton Hogan were under pressure to get this project done before their traffic management plan cut off at 3PM. By using the rubber curb block method, it allowed Fulton Hogan to remove a typical stage of the construction process.
The kerb blocks were able to be cut to size on-site so that they could form the specific shape of the island required. So all they needed to do was assemble and bolt down the rubber kerb blocks and then book a concrete truck to come and infill the island with concrete. This meant they could get the whole project completed and reopen to traffic again within five hours.
We’re always looking to improve. One of the piece of feedback we got from the team on-site was if we could provide the rubber kerb blocks pre-cut, this would save even more time, and this is something we’ll be looking to explore for future projects.
If you have any road safety improvements that are requiring traffic islands, and you want to explore how you might be able to use our Modular Rubber Kerbing, get in touch with us and let’s have a chat about your project.
