Client: Toll Global Logistics
Location: Brisbane, Heathwood, AU
Toll Global Logistics is an Australian-based logistics and transportation business providing end-to-end services across warehousing and distribution. With over 16,000 staff across more than 500 sites worldwide, ensuring the safety of people and assets while maintaining operational efficiency is crucial.
Client Challenges:
As part of their newly acquired site in Brisbane, Toll was seeking a pedestrian and traffic safety solution that could withstand all on-site risks, be delivered within project timelines, and meet the highest of safety standards.
The priorities were:
- Creating safe pedestrian walkways for staff and visitors that separate them from vehicles, forklifts, and other material handling equipment (MHE).
- Protecting the MHE parking base from other vehicle and MHE impact.
- Safeguarding the warehouse office space, which is home to staff and assets.
Solutions Offered:
Vanguard worked closely with the team at Toll to understand their situation and what they were trying to achieve. As a result, the decision was made to install the:
The modular steel barrier system was used to create a physical barrier between pedestrians and forklifts and MHE around the perimeter of the site, both internally and externally. It was also installed at entranceways and exits, around driver safe zones, and to section off the warehouse office space. PAS 13 Certified, the barrier is designed to withstand impact from forklifts/MHE, increasing protection and reducing maintenance.
The PedSafe gate was used in conjunction with the ForkSafe Barrier to pause pedestrians at high-risk zones. Self-closing and highly visible, the gate encourages people to assess hazards before walking into the line of forklifts/MHE.
The Outcome
Toll Global Logistics Senior Manager James Vidot said the solutions implemented were a standout to all on-site, and the durability of the barriers was evident. The installation of the ForkSafe Barrier System and Pause Gate provides robust protection for people and assets, without compromising operational efficiency. One of the biggest wins was that they were able to remove unnecessary safety barriers the team thought they needed, thereby increasing overall operational space.
“Vanguard was very prompt in assessing the needs of our project, from drafting plans to organising materials, labour, and installation, within our project timelines. This was a very smooth transaction throughout.
The drawings Vanguard supplied to quote up the work also made it easier for project signoff, as the stakeholders were able to visualise the outcome and were satisfied with what they had seen, as well as the compliance standard it came with.”
